NZ's South African Adventure

Friday, September 28, 2007

The week has flown by. Finally I'm able to upload some photos and add an entry. Firstly we want to send condolences to our friends Rey and Laura on the loss of their father this week. Secondly we want to applaud Manitoba for the decision to honour their founding father Louis Riel and the civic holiday. Thirdly we wish a happy anniversary to my brother and sister and a happy birthday to my cousin Petey.

Finally we get to the meat of the blog.
We've been up and down and around the peninsula this week. Starting with Simon's Town on Saturday, the waterfront on Sunday, Hout Bay and seal island on Monday, Canal Walk and the movie "Ratatoulie" on Monday, to Cape of Good Hope and Kirstenbosch Gardens on Tuesday, then to Betty's Bay to see the penguins and Hermanus yesterday to see the whales. We constantly are surprised when we see the whales so close to shore and doing their thing, lobtailing, sailing and breaching. We've had three encounters this week already. Sometime we see as many as seven at a time. We've also enjoyed good fish this week, sampled South African food and wine and enjoyed the scenery and the weather.
We're off tomorrow to Pilanesberg National Park in the northwest province for six days of R and R. We hope to see some African wildlife.

  • You can sure tell they love spending time with their Grandma and Grandpa!!! Hope the visiting is wonderful, again some beautiful photos - you'll need to investigate some private photography work when you return, you have a gift!
    Lots of love from Edmonton!

  • It is so great to see Mom and Dad slip right in to their "original" roles: Dad reading with Henry and Mom with a sleeping Harry... looks like you're all having a great time together. I love the close-up photos of everyone.

Have a fabulous week of rest and relaxation... hopefully you can give us all an update while your away. (You know where to find me on msn)

I think of you all everyday - just over a month to go until I get the African experience...

    Lots of love,
    Chris (and Matt)

  • Hi All,
    Your pictures are fabulous.
Looks like you're having the experience of a lifetime. The 3 weeks for Ruth and Al may well be too short.
The weather here is also something else. At 4pm it is 29+ and windy.
    With love from Winkler,
    Lydia Z.

Oh, and did I say the photography is exceptional?
