NZ's South African Adventure

It's been a fabulous fun filled long weekend here in the sometimes sunny Cape. Friday was freedom day, the 13th anniversary of the the first election. Today is worker's day, however many are still working we saw. We've been busy and I apologize for the lack of posts, but here is our activity in a short summary. If you want more detail, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Friday morning we went to the car show at Canal Walk and watched a movie (the Robinsons). Saturday we went to the Old Biscuit factory market and then to Milnerton to the sand dunes. In the evening Henry, Grandpa and I went to the Stormers' rugby game. That was a blast. Luckily we had a couple in front of us that helped us with the rules and answered any questions we had. We entered the stadium (seats 60000) early to get a good feel for the venue and made our way around to find some eats. The stadium itself is older but we found pubs underneath (no beer allowed in the stands) and settled for bbq'd wors outside the stadium. This was great, taking the train there and back, the evening was great. Rugby looks very rough but fun too. Sunday after church and a nap, we had to get to the Kirstenbosch market but it was closed due to rain. The kids were home sleeping, so Mom, Dad and I trudged partially through Kirstenbosch gardens, getting wet along the way, but thoroughly enjoying the scenery. On Monday we visited the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Betty's Bay on the other side of False Bay. This was a stunning drive along the coast. Today we headed out to the Cape of Good Hope and then hiked over to the Cape Point. This was a nice one hour walk towards our lunch at the top. We saw baboons along the way which is always a hit with the younguns.

We've had a super time with grandpa and grandma here and will definitely miss them (again) when they leave on Thursday.

  • Sounds like a very exciting weekend. Great pictures - love the animal shots (maybe your next career will be with National Geographic?) and the family photos too!
Thinking of you all as you say farewell to Ron & Connie.
I love you and miss you!

  • Hi Harry and Henry, this is Luke, sitting on Grampa Al's lap. We looked at the pictures and saw all kinds of animals and even some animal poop, ooops. Miss you a lot and wish you could be here at Gramma Ruths place. Bye
