We're on strike day number one. The kids are at home, Carla took the day off and we went for a nice hike just a kilometer away from Kirstenbosch Gardens in the Cecelia Plantations. We climbed for just over an hour until the kids decided it was time to turn around. We went up through a gorge that had a waterfall, some wet forests and some huge pine and cork trees. The smell in the pine forests reminded us of our forests in Canada and it was good to be back home at leasts olfactorally.
Yesterday I made a visit to the dentist. This was not by choice after a filling fell out while I was flossing the other night. The dentist himself was great, he reminded me of the psycho actor on the Lost Room miniseries, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0160550/ wearing all white and also white shoes! (Dairy Queen after youth group). The needles were relatively painless and I had worked myself up for nothing. The dentist office was not your typical Canadian office, rather it could have been an early 70's style. The replacement filling me cost me just under $70 (with tip since the receptionist had no change from what she told me).
Monday is another day off for Henry, Katy apparently has school. we'll see, the paper today says it may drag out...there were tear gas and rubber bullets fired into a Tygerberg Hospital group of protesters...that is where we were with Ron and Connie last month. We haven't seen any strikers, all the teachers seem not to be striking at school. Time will tell.
Tomorrow Katy gets her debut in goal for the U9 Rustenburg Hockey team. Go Rustybugs!
