Having a day off on Friday was great. We decided to throw caution to the wind, and visit Hermanus in the squalling weather. It is a fantastic drive along the east side of False Bay...check out the pictures and at one point we saw a fin sticking out of the water, so we stopped and saw a seal waving at us. We drove on determined to see some huge mammals and were not disappointed when we got to Walker (Texas Ranger) Bay. As we parked the car and got battered by the wind we immediately spotted a Souther Right Whale in the harbour. What a glorious sight! We watched patiently after a nice lunch and saw a number of breaches (when the whale almost completely jumps out of the water) and also some tale wagging. This was just amazing.
On another note, we are celebrating two birthdays today, Katy obviously as well as Auntie Lisa's back in Winnipeg. Hope your day is super and filled with Kielke! Katy has already spent her birthday money from grandpa and grandma in Winnipeg on clothes at the Canal Walk shopping center. Tonight we're off for Mexican Food.

School is out for the week. Oil refinery staff are back to work. Seems like much ado about nothing. Media scares the people into lining up and stockpiling the gasoline.
Carla made another few trips this week for interviews, she is all but done her quota. We went to Lentegeur in Mitchell's Plain on Monday and then Sun Valley near Noordhoek on Tuesday. These pictures are from the beach in Kommetje (pronounced Comet key).
We're up for a hike with friends tomorrow morning before it clouds over again and maybe to the West Coast National park on Friday to see the amazing flowers in bloom. That should be stunning. We will celebrate Katy's birthday on Saturday though she is having her party on the following Saturday due to scheduling at the bowling lanes. We'll take her and a friend to the Fat Cactus mexican restaurant. Anyone wanting to send well wishes to her on the 9th BDay, feel free to post a comment and we'll pass it along to her.

The weekend is over and the rain is back. Luckily we had two great days in the sun and we used them to the fullest. Friday night after rugby we chowed down at Wimpy Burger and then watched a couple of movies. The kids watched Bridge to Terebithia which was very nice...sad but very well done. Carla and I watched Blood Diamond which portrayed the evils of the diamond trade in Africa. There were some shots of Cape Town in this movie which we immediately spotted. Leo di Caprio stars in this as a Rhodesian (Zimbabwean) trader. Well done movie although violent.
Saturday morning we were up bright and early for park rugby at SACS and the Rondebosch boys did not disappoint. They thrashed the SACS boys. It was a mudfest! and the doughnuts were great. In the evening we headed over to Pinelands High for the musical Oklahoma! This was very entertaining and we ran into friends there.
After church yesterday we headed to Colin and Lindsey's place (the parents of Jack in grade 1). This was very relaxing as there was another couple who had a six year old boy and a nine year old girl who Katy played with. The adults had a Braii (roast beef) and some very nice wine. We were full to the brim.
This will be a short school week due to National Women's Day on Thursday and then a school holiday on Friday. We're looking forward to som hiking over the weekend.
