NZ's South African Adventure

The kids are on vacation. Already they are bored. Just kidding. Katy has finished her 6th Harry Potter novel in less than two months. She is eagerly waiting for the next and last one. Henry is outside playing basketball with Kunai. Harry is Harry enjoying his Lightning McQueen puzzle a few times a day and beginning to get hooked on Henry's gameboy.
Apparently the public union has agreed to the government's last and final offer of 7.5% although it sounds as if the teachers are separating and may go out on their own. I haven't read today's Argus or Times yet so I'm not certain.
In other news, the Springboks have a bye week as the NZ AllBlacks and Aus Wallabies face off this weekend in the Tri Nations Cup.
Sunday is another big bike race in the Cape. It will use the same gruelling course as the Cape Argus uses and have only trained professionals from all over the eastern hemisphere rather than a mish mash of oldies but goodies and superstars. We'll definitely watch that one...and then in the evening we're off to a fish brai with friends from church. Should be good...I'll post pictures if I can.
Congrats to Uncle Miltie on his record tying TD!

The strike is still on says Cosatu, however cracks are starting to show. We're not sure what is going on since the teachers are teaching in most places. The unions are now down to 9% while the gov't still says 7.5. Where this will go is anyone's guess however the holidays are drawing near for the teachers at least so the kids will not be affected.
Parts of the country are on fire due to forest fires and parts of the country are covered in snow...funny how they make a huge deal of it here. I was almost laughed at for wearing short sleeves out today when the sun was out.

What a weekend...it went from hot to cold and busy to ...not busy. Well that is ok. Katy ended up going to Jane's house for a sleepover, makeover, pizzaover, etc...she had a great time. They stayed up late, went shopping at the mall, had lunch and had a ball. Henry's rugby was a great time too. We travelled about fifteen minutes to a private school in Tokai called Reddam. Here Rondebosch took it to the Reddam kids. Actually it was quite close but I think we won, nobody kept score. Click the picture of Henry and Jack for more. It was nice to talk to all the parents and we got another couple of offers for weekend getaways. It seems like everyone has a weekend retreat somewhere and would like us to use it for a weekend. That is not hard for us to take. We will try to be accomodating.
We had our friends from the fourth floor over for soup on Sunday night and they brought meat buns filled with swordfish...this was great...and tasty.
It's cool here today, about 13 with rain and very gusty wind. We are expecting to warm up next week when we travel to Durban for a short holiday. That is quite a way up the eastern seaboard on the Indian ocean. We expect to see many rhino at Hluhluhe Park which has the greatest population in the world of white rhino.
